Black Women and Resilience: Power, Perseverance, and Public Health
About the Book Cover Art
The Cover Art and Description-“Memories Like Mountains” were conceptualized by Brandie Adams-Piphus, a remarkable Black woman artist. The artistic expression is about “transcending past negative memories and traumas. You must confront them again and again until you have risen above them. This piece is a figurative exploration of this process. The subject is one with the mountains (her memories) because often our past memories are interwoven with our identity. We may partly choose to define ourselves by our past hurts and pain. The mountains are shown as inside the subject's head to symbolize memories, which often are like mountainous terrain with many different layers and inclines. The color is returning to her as she reaches the top of the mountain to illustrate her transformation and ascension over her past.”
